In the early hours of Thursday, torrential rain resulted in severe flooding across multiple areas of Lagos State, leaving commuters and motorists stuck in gridlock. Several major roads and residential areas were submerged, creating traffic disruptions and forcing many people to wade through floodwaters to reach their destinations.
The downpour caused significant delays as vehicles broke down in flooded streets, with some commuters abandoning public transportation to continue their journeys on foot. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone zones.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has been mobilized to assist with clearing roadways and supporting affected residents, while ongoing traffic jams are expected to continue until water levels recede. Residents have expressed frustration over the recurrent flooding, citing poor drainage systems and unregulated urban development as key factors contributing to the crisis.
The government is urging citizens to stay indoors where possible and to heed weather advisories in the coming days, as more rainfall is predicted.
